An interview about WordPress, and more

A few weeks back, I was interviewed by Jonathan Wold and Luke Carbis for the Perspectives version of their Crossword podcast. The episode is out today, feel free to listen.
It’s been a hot minute since I was on a podcast, so it was great to talk not only about WordPress but about the Camino web browser, which is how I got my start in the tech industry. Back in March 2005, I helped launch Camino’s standalone website, as part of my contributions to the project. A couple of years later, the Mozilla Corporation recognized my community contributions and hired me to work on Firefox.[1]
Camino was also my entry point to WordPress.
Part of working for Mozilla meant moving to the Bay Area and it was there that I met a writer named Om Malik, a long time fan of Camino. He introduced me to a young entrepreneur by the name of Matt Mullenweg. Not long after, Mullenweg donated to Camino, so that we could create Camino stickers. Fast forward to 2013 and I was back in the Bay Area, where Mullenweg had rediscovered the stickers just as I was reconnecting. The timing was perfect—after some discussion, I was hired by Mullenweg at Audrey Capital, which kicked off my entry into the WordPress community.
If you’re looking for a bit more, my Perspectives interview follows John Gruber’s, who is always a great interviewee. Gruber has been covering the Apple beat for the past twenty-plus years, but spoke with Wold and Carbis about a range of topics. I recommend giving Gruber’s interview a listen as well.[2]
Camino was an all-volunteer project and remained that way until it was shuttered. ↩︎
